Fuel injection was the best thing ever to happen to turbocharged engines, and engines in general. So why go back?
The 16v motor was never sold with carbs (despite the cast-in-to-the-head "boss" that could accommodate a mechanical fuel pump if machined out, and the eccentric was on the cam...). Bosch LH FI only.
The 8v motor was sold in carb form up till the end of that motor's life in 88 or 89. In fact, after they stopped selling the 8v in the US, I think all you could get was an 8v with one or two carbs in some very low-end 900s in Scandiavia.
The manifolds can't interchange between the 8v & 16v.
I suppose there is someone out there who has put a carb or two on a 16v, probably to homologate into a local racing group, and almost certainly not with a turbo. Other than that, there really isn't any reason to convert...
Turbos and carbs are a bad mix. You either have to suck the gas through the turbo, or blow the pressurized air through the carb. The former is a little easier, but still not a walk in the park...
