paging turbocon86!! clockspring redux (long)... Posted by baggsly [Email] ![]() ![]() |
hi turbocon,
i seem to be a little slow on the uptake on this. could you explain this part of your post one more time?
"Also, an interesting note....the AMP connector on the airbag side of the clockspring has a grounding strap that is defeated when snapping into the male side of the connector on the dash side. SO, if you are doing a continuity test on the airbag wiring, you have to clip into a "host" male connector to see if the wiring is OK."
with my clockspring out of the car, i put an ohmmeter on horn contact 1 (dash side) and on contact 1 on steer wheel side. no reading. but, when i move one probe over to contact 2, it shows continuity. if i understand the posts i read, that's how it should be because of the ground thingie in the AMP plug?
i have another clockspring, if i take the male plug off of that, and plug that into the horn contact plug, do i just use the empty plug or does it have to have wires in it to complete circuit? i was thinking i could push probes thru from back side of empty plug.
if i don't use an empty plug, can i plug it into the harness at the dash and test it that way?
and when i'm testing it, should i NOT get continuity if all is ok, or should i get continuity contact 1 to contact 1 on other side of clockspring and 2 to 2?
lastly, is there some similar way to test the srs yellow plug and white airbag contact insert to make sure the srs side of things are ok?
thanks in advance, and anyone else want to chip in feel free!
mark :-)
