Boy, that shower drain has been around the block....
Removal is simple crafty destruction of the seal....a hook tool seems to help get it out. Just don't pry against something that will be marked by your pry tool.
The two bolts on the drain tool go into the crankshaft. I can't recall why I put in two, but it was probably because I wouldn't have to hack up the shower drain to put another bolt through it.
The nuts and backup washer then advance the tool pushing the seal into place. You have to be very careful to make sure it is pulling it flat, so you have to go back and forth between the two nuts. Some grease around the OD of the seal, and be really careful about the ID and how the seal lip fits over the crank. The more time you spend, the less likely that you will damage the seal.
