From erratic idle to dead Saab... (UPDATE) Posted by DietrichOS [Email] ![]() ![]() |
My 1990 Turbo Automatic Convertible was starting when it was cold, running fine for 8-10 miles, then idling erratically and dying. Also the check engine light had come on.
Sent it to the Saab guys I know to have it checked out, they came up with a Mass Airflow Meter that was only working intermitently. I am waiting to get the part to replace it to see if that works. They said the CEL was pointing to the O2 sensor, but the screwed up Air Mass Meter could cause that code.
So I took the car back from them, and of course it still runs when it is cold. Somebody on here suggested gettting the car up to temperature, when it starts to die, and spray various parts down with compressed air to cool it off and see if that works. So today, I drove it around the block, parked it and let it idle for about a half an hour, and not only did it not die the check engine light went off. I got bored and shut it down.
So that left me scratching my head. The only thing the Saab techs actually did to my car was fix the plug on the distibutor because it was loose, but the wires were intact.
So that's where I are. I guess I order that mass airflow sensor and see what happens? For some reason I just feel like I haven't nailed down what the problem is with this thing.
