your symptoms - sound like more a transition issue which the accumulator is unlikely to be responsible for.
It may be running too rich or getting in unmetered air. What kind of thermotime switch do you have in place- red, white or black top? Check Bentley for specs and differences between models and how they affect transition.
I would first verify the following:make sure your AAV or AAR is functional - it should be open when cold and slowly shut off when warmed up - you can test this by placing in freezer and then applying 12 volts to it
make sure you have absolutely NO vacuum leaks - use the tennis ball/soap bubbles trick I have posted on elsewhere.
Make sure your O2 sensor is fully functional when warmed up and that its connection is solid - a stumbling at start up is due to it being signalled to come on too early by the thermotime (hence the different types).
make sure the cold start injector functions and is not leaking.
make sure the Warm up Regulator is functional - they can be rebuilt - check this site and others.
check and verify all electrical connections at each sensor - clean those grounds!
all in all - CIS is pretty simple to test and not prone to catastrophic failures - they have independent systems that allow you to isolate causal factors (emissions, warm up, cold start etc) but a Bentley really helps (or check "bad habit rabbit" website.
