It's not nearly so important with the non-ABS car as with the ABS car. I would guess the "method behind the madness" would be to avoid siphoning old fluid back into the system from a long line that hasn't been bled.
BTW - there's furthest as the crow flies, and furthest as the brake line goes. The longest brake line (and thus "farthest" caliper) on a C900 is the LEFT rear, NOT the right rear. Brake lines go along the sill, under the back seat, cross to the right side of the car, through the bulkhead fittings and flexible lines, to the axle, and the left line goes about 3 feet along the axle, while the right one less than a foot...
