Sorry about the time variance - I kept running into TSN's spam filter for some reason & gave up.
Back to the original subject;
A refresher; 87' 900t, 104k, prev running perfectly, well maintained, getting 30+mpg...suddenly started smoking heavily from the tail pipe. Mostly under acceleration.
I WAS all but certain the old "Arctic Cat" snowmobile injection oil I was adding to the gas (only 3oz per tank) had simply collected in the catalytic converter & was burning off. However, the use of 2-cycle oil seems to be a red herring. [I've deleted the rest of my diatribe on this due to TSN perceiving it as containing "spamish" content - what exactly I don't know!]
We opted for a tow...& I'm glad. After only 10 mi of driving w/a highway obliterating smoke screen behind, the crankcase is 1+qt low on oil (just changed it too!). I gave everything a semi thorough going over + test drive (no, not the wife ;) - it looks like a bad head gasket...OR (hopefully) a turbo seal &/or a clogged return pipe???
How often does SUDDEN major oil consumption accompany a HG failure? I can't tell if coolant is being burned...the level is nearly max, but the top rad hose seemed pretty "tight" after I drove the car. I can't be sure though...maybe just my imagination. The Bars leaks (preventative measure) I have in the coolant disguises any oil contamination. The tail pipe however IS dripping oil & the entire LR of the car is splattered w/it. There's no oil in the intake. I'm going to pull the plugs, then take the exh side of the turbo apart if it ever stops raining.
Thanks for reading
