The one thing we know is the panels are not the same length from the SE ( SiS ) to the SPG. Also, it is known that the bumper mount brackets are different ( shorter on the vert ) between the 3 door hatch and the sedan/vert.
SPG panels are longer than the vert SE ( SiS ) panels.
It seems that you indicated the opposite of that, therefore, the only explanation I have is that the bumper brackets are not correct for the car you are trying to install the panels on, or the bumper cover ends have been modified from stock dimensions.
I have read about people trimming down the length of the SPG rear panel to accomodate a better fit on the convertibles. I found the SiS panels for my 1991 vert, so they fit without modification.
