Saabpeople: this is a story, and a question (longish)

A few weeks past; I typed of a problem with the SPG cutting off, not starting and operating erractically. Whew!

The advice was perhaps an O2 sensor, or the NTC transmitter or even the ECU.

Well, last week, I had it for the SPG down, had caused me to pull out my other Saab with soft brakes, which in turn caused me rear end the back of a Lincoln towncar after the brake pedal went straight to the floor- my poor little 96v4 now needs extensive work, yet that is another story for the 96 board.

Back to the SPG:

Last Sunday, I worked in the rain, and did various swaps of parts of which I know are good. This included, O2 sensor, AIC, air mass meter, and the NTC sensor. I hoped for the best, as I pulled the SPg off, only to have it stumble, cut off, and not start, twenty minutes later. (Damn)

Yesterday, after the car would not fire in the morning; I had it, as I asked myself what could it be? After numerous attempts of cranking, boom it fired, and ran fine. I made a decision right there and then; "I'm fixing this problem today, and I am not going to waste my time diagnosing anything".

I marched into the garage, pulled a fuel pump, a fuel regulator valve, and an 87/88 ECU and both relays. I changed everything without any break; or testing.

A couple of hours later, I sat in the gray seat, turned the key.. Kazoom! I drove and drove that SPG up and down, town, all around with shaking my head, regretting all that time the car sat. Earlier, this morning, kazoom...kazoom. kazoom, you Saabnuts. That &%%&&$ problem is fixed.

Now, one question remains: What the hell part was defective?

Fuel pump?

ECU?

Fuel pressure regulator?

Relays? I doubt it is the relays for I heard clicking while trying to fire the car.

Fuel pump? not sure; for I did hear it buzz after turning the key. Yet a bad check valve perhaps? yet would a bad valve cause the car to cut off underway?

Fuel pressure regulator? I never had one of these go bad?

ECU? I'm thinking of plugging the old one in to see; as it is easy to swap.

Any guesses Saabers?
