Coolant, Coolant Everywhere!

My 1990 SPG is losing coolant like mad. I was driving home the other day and noticed a coolant smell. When I got home the coolant was empty. Refilled it the next morning, and after a ten hour drive it was nearly completely empty again. There was coolant spray (a lot of it) all over the passenger side under the hood from front to back, pooled on top of the distributor cap as well. The thing is, the car never gets up to temperature on the dash gauge. Also, I let the car sit in the driveway running for a while until it was up to temperature to see if I could figure out where it was leaking from, even revving the engine, and got nothing. Coolant stayed full. But again, I took it for a short drive around the block and came back with coolant spray everywhere again.
So, I think I'll replace the coolant gauge temperature sensor to have an accurate reading. The dash gauge always has been suspiciously cool, like never more than 1/4 up the gauge. I'm just wondering where the temp sensor is located. thesaabsite.com says its on the end of the head w/ 2 wires coming off it, but I don't see it. Also, if anyone has input on what might be causing this explosive coolant leak, that would be great. I was thinking there might be a leak up near the turbo that's being blown back by the fans, but I can't spot it with coolant everywhere without it actually leaking at idle.
