Hello all,

I am happy to report that I stopped by AutoZone Thursday and paid for the new master cylinder ($66 with tax), picked it up Friday, and Saturday morning/afternoon put it in. Success! Working clutch! Hurray!

I would like to gratefully thank everyone who responded to my earlier posts. Without your help I would've been in over my head. As it was, replacing the MC was no big deal--in and out in less than ten minutes. Of course, removing and replacing all the crap to get under there took hours. Ug. I still don't understand how to get the center console in and out other than by forcing and cursing. It reminded me of a gag from a Douglas Adams book where they're moving a couch on stairs and it gets stuck and they can't unstick it--the gag is that for some reason a corner of the couch accidently popped into another dimension, allowing the couch to move into the new position, but then the portal or whatever closed, leaving the would-be movers mystified. If I remember correctly, the couch stayed lodged in the stairwell for the rest of the novel....

That center console was a pain in the rear, and had to be removed to get the knee bolster out. Phew. Anyway, now all is well and back together, except for my ashtray, which I can figure out how to get it lodged back into its mounting area. Also I can't figure out which of the leftover screws and bolts I have (hmmm--I think some of them were sitting in the ashtray from a previous project) fits the four holes to secure the ashtray holder. Oh well, I successfully drove to work today. Hurray!

I'd like to especially thank Larry for the detailed instructions, and also whomever mentioned that you can bleed the system by putting a clear vinyl tube into the reservoir from the bleeder nipple, and pump the clutch pedal with a broom handle. WAY easier and more effective than my attempt at a DIY pressure bleeder. Kudos....

Thanks again everybody...

Sky
