If it never shifted right after new coupling, then yes, Posted by nicknick [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: I hope you're right., BAAB ![]() ![]() |
it does need to be adjusted. These boxes are touchy in this respect. You also need to be sure that the 3 screws that hold down the shifter are secure. Same with the shifter housing-3 special nuts. unfortunately, the nut you loosen to adjust shifter is tough to get to. I havn't come up with a workable solution, yet. There is a method that involves a pin, dropped through the hole in front of the gear shifter.I adjust by feel. I think your shifter is too far back-hence not going in to reverse properly, and too far left. This would make it tough to get 2nd, and maybe 1st if bad enough. I would set it in 3rd, and loosen the coupling nut, then nudge the shifter over to the forward-right direction, just enough to notice it has moved. Tighten it up, then check the shifter. Make sure you can still get 5th. There is a reverse mod, that looks doable. Search for it. Also, change the oil. If you have been shifting rough as a result of this, there are probably bits in the oil. New oil always benefits these boxes. Good luck
