What works for me is to find the centre balance point of the car then I utilise a length of 2 x 4 approx. 3' in length. I place the board on top of my floor jack & raise one side of the car at a time. The board is placed inside of the pinch weld below the door opening & the length of the board is shorter than the distance between the two jack plates on the car. This allows me to place the jack stands on the plates. Been doing it this way for years on coupes & sedans without a problem.
