Your 1988 should have the same height adjustment (Driver seat only), that came on the non-passive belt cars up through 1990.
At the front of the seat, below the legroom adjustment, there is a "U" shaped bar, with a plastic piece in it. The bottom of the "U" will be pointing either forward or aft. To adjust the seat, pull the plastic piece towards the bottom of the "U". This releases the adjuster. Rotate the "U" so that it's pointing straight up. Now, you can adjust it one of four ways:
Front high, rear high
Front high, rear low
Front low, rear high
front low, rear low
To make the adjustment, if you want the back of the seat down, while the bottom of the "U" points up, press down the back of the seat (at the base of the backrest), then rotate the "U" as follows: For a high front, rotate the "U" to the rear, for a low front, rotate the "U" to the front (I hope I got that part right... It's been a year since I drove a 900 :-( ). Rotate the "U" until it locks in place.
That's all the adjustment you have. There are no intermediate steps.
Good luck with your new CV!
