I replaced the head gasket on my 1987 900 Turbo and when I was putting it back together, one of the exhause manifold studs broke. Of course it was the stud above the motor mount and incredibly hard to get to. I decided to try and drill it out while it was still in the car and needless to say I was not able to drill it straight. Now I have no way to fix the hole that I drilled.

Since the hole is not easily repairable I think my best option is to replace the entire cylinder head. I'm trying to figure out which Saab models have the same head. A You-Pull-It lot nearby has two 1986 900S cars. I haven't looked at these yet but if they are the same I can get the head for $29.95 + a $10 refundable core charge.

My question is will these heads work? Will a head from a 1986 - 1994 9000 non-turbo work as well? Is there any place online where I can figure out which years and models will work?

On a side note, the one HUGE lesson I learned here is to replace the exhaust manifold studs when you pull out the cylinder head. The studs aren't that expensive and would have saved me all of the work of pulling the head back out of the car. If the stud had broken while I had it out at least I could have used a drill press or some other way to make sure I drilled it out correctly...lesson learned (the hard way, as usual) :-)
