While the motor is running it's not supposed to be at 0 degrees, it's supposed to be at 14 degrees. I assume you are using a timing light. Loosen the hold-down clamp on your distributor. With the motor running, and your timing light connected, turn the distributor until 14 degrees lines up with the timing mark on the flywheel cover. I usually put a white line on the flywheel at 14 degrees and on the flywheel cover mark so it's easier to see.
Did you just do a headgasket job, or replace your timing chain? I ask, because you said you got everything lined up. After you get everything lined up, you have to rotate your engine 2 & 1/2 times till the marks on the cams come back around. If they are still lined up, things are OK. If they aren't, you may be off a link on one of the cam sprockets.
