Swish,
I believe that the change in gasket diameter occurred when the head was changed from external to internal oiling in 1988. The external oiling heads have the little pipes on top the cam caps and were used through 1987. The early gasket for the external oiler head will have the half moons as separate items. So if your head has the little pipes on top then you need the smaller diameter gasket with the separate half moons. That's the logic I use here and it seems to work every time. You should replace those tube connectors too as they get brittle and may break in use. Be sure to keep the valve cover with the head it came with. The cover for the early heads have bosses to hold the tubes down and in place, later covers don't. The heads will interchange on any C900 engine so don't go by the year of the car the head came from, it may have been changed. I've seen older cars with new style heads and vice-versa.
