I wrote a lengthy post this morning on this, and the spam filter zapped me! So, i'll try again...
Goal for the build; Make the SiS an actual SPG cvt, as it should have been!
SPG springs (thanks Nate) with SAS spacers at rear (they are used springs, bronze stripe). Koni shocks, set on #2 all around.
Basic DIY tune: WG at 8psi, Vac module-bent stop, set timing at 22/10, slightly crack f&p pots.
This car really drives nice. I am really impressed with the spring/shock set-up on this car. 75-100mph (closed course...) is just amazing, practically zero body roll, those shocks just suck it up. Feels like you actually could go around any corner at any speed (i havn't tested that theory out!). Also like the way the front doesn't lift as much as the SPG does (going to get Koni's for it, also).
The 205 60 15's don't rub with the SAS spacers.
Decided against the all-out boost model, since i have trashed 2 sets of 3rd gears in 12 months. Happier with the smooth, lively response that this set-up gives, both on and off boost. Pulls silky smooth to the redline, with a nice fat 15-16psi at around 3krpm.
Cleaning and repacking the drive shafts help remove the backlash i had on transition.
Redline MTL in the trans was a great move, but it didn't help my 1-2 synchro problem.
I highly recommend everyone run out and buy a set of Koni's. They were $380 odd at shox , and came in 2 weeks (drop ship from koni). I am going to set the SPG's set at #3, as it has a stiffer body.
Good luck all.
