I recently removed my carpet for cleaning, and found a small lake of water on my floorboards. My carpet was DRY, but the foam pads were wet and I had some rust on the floor in places where the undercoating had failed. I assumed that the water had gotten in because I had allowed my Fresh Air intake box to become clogged.
I sanded off all the rust down to shiny metal, I applied a several types of anti-rust treatment, and applied a solid layer of new undercoating. Of course I totally cleaned out that fresh air intake box.
I'm STILL GETTING WATER ON MY FLOOR though. We had a monstrous thunderstorm yesterday, and I found water in the front passenger footwell, and little pools of water in the rear seat footwells. The driver's footwell is dry.
I'm reluctant to put my clean carpet back into the car until I can stop the water from getting in. Where is it coming from? When I point a hose full-blast onto my hood, aimed directly into my fresh air box, it will eventually cause water to flow into the car, but normal amounts of water seem to flow harmlessly though a nipple and onto the street without entering the car.
I wish I could eliminate the risk of water retention so I can put my carpet and bolsters back in. I don't think my convertible top is leaking. In fact, I don't see any water in the cabin of the car or on the surface of my floorpads. The water is only appearing way down on the floor, and being absorbed by the foam underside of the pads. If the carpet were in the car, it would remain dry.
Sorry for the rambling question. Any ideas? Thanks!
