That pin is actually tapered and the nut is used to draw it tight into it's tapered bore. You should be able to drive it out with a small pin drift from the end where the nut was, that's on the bottom. If you've been pounding on it from above you have been making it tighter and it will never come out that way. Because it's tapered it pops completely out as soon as it comes loose. If you don't have a lift then jack the front of the car up as high as possible so you can swing a hammer under there. The pin in this picture has a slight groove worn near the top from being loose.
