Convertible top broken ram end saga.

1. Put top down after work, hear ugly snap, try to ignore it.
2. Watch top go down lopsided, decide I'm pushing my luck, turn the hydraulic override when I get home and put the top up by hand.
3. Lovely weather next day. Take a look inside and see hydraulic ram end snapped off. Put top down by hand, later consult saabnet, find answer, (Thanks guys) order part from McMaster-Carr (60645K341 Right-Hand Female Shank).
4. Lovely weather continues. Do top by hand. I think I'm getting stronger.
5. Parts arrive. No time.
6. Weekend arrives. Son and I wrench ourselves away from world cup in spanish (no cable), cant get broken sleeve off of hydraulic ram shaft.
7. Hard to get 4 hands in there, unzip rear window (queue ominous music).
8. Walk to privately-owned old-style hardware store (lucky me) and buy vice-grips.
9. Get end off, new piece goes on perfectly.
10. Pull off old eye, nearly drop pin and washer into deep recesses of the back of the car.
11. Jog hydraulics back and forth to line up pin. Doesn't seem to move much.
12. Get things back together, try to run top down, nothing much happens.
13. Pull back seat, no leaks, check fluid, say bad words, still nothing happens.
14. Decide there are air bubbles in top, open and close it a couple of times hoping to get bubbles out. Still nothing happens. Try to remember bleed process in Bentley. Get discouraged.
15. Start budgeting for trip to the indy, decide to call it a day.
16. Try to zip window back up. No luck. Decide since it probably hasn't been opened in 18 years it's never going back together. Say more bad words. Struggle for an hour and finally get it closed.
17. Close top by hand, really call it a day. Walk into the house thinking doing the top by hand isn't that bad.
18. Remember hydraulic bypass valve is still open!
19. Back out to car, close valve, top works like a champ!
20. Close up car, click remote to lock. Remote doesn't work. Decide to stop before I break anything else.
