I thought I had a blown HG on my barely over 100k 87' 900t. LOTS of white (looking) smoke completely obliterating a x4 lane highway. Towed the car home, no drop in coolant...but the oil was down a full quart (had just changed it too). Lots of oil at the tail pipe (now dripping out past the front cat flange), NONE on the plugs (they looked fine), nor in the intake. I'm assuming a turbo shaft seal let go on the turbine side. This was back in March...car is still awaiting further attention & absolute diagnosis. I digress.
Anyway.....my car ran FINE despite burning a qt of oil in 10 miles. With all the symptoms described here, Darryl prob has a different problem (or maybe not)...perhaps several issues. I just wanted to relay to all that while oil consumption SHOULD result in blue smoke...sometimes it's not so obvious. Different oils might burn different colors? Just speculating. The qt I burned sure looked white.
