To use the 9000 block, you will have to strip the motor down to almost the bare block. The basic blocks are the same (until you hit the 2.3 liter 9000s, and the 2.0 derived from that), but stuff like timing covers, water pump housings, etc. are different.
Yes, the 9000 motor will work fine with the distrubutor ignition in the 900. Just install & align the distributor & hook up he spark wires.
BOTH engines use LH injection, but of two different variants, and most bits are not interchangeable.
In all honesty, though, you might be better off simply having the SPG motor rebuilt. Putting the 9000 motor in the 900 is doable, but not as easy as dropping another 900 motor in.
