Bench testing a Hall sensor - yes & no (mostly no)...

I asked that very question here not long ago. Search the subject & look for my post. The consensus was that it is possible to detect the low powered signal...but you'd need an oscilloscope (& the ability to use it) to detect it. You'll be best off testing your distributors in a car as per Bentley.
Btw, a good test reading doesn't necessarilly mean the particular unit wont crap out an hour/week/month after you put in into use. Hall sensor failures tend to be sporadic...usually excaserbated by vibration & heat. Inspect the condition of the three small harness wires carefully.
