Wheel studs are not screwed in. They are pressed in to the hub.
Classic 900s used two different bolt patterns. The early one (through MY 1987) used studs on the hub and nuts to hold the wheels on.
The later pattern (1988- and all 9000s) had threaded holes in the hub face, and bolts to hold the wheels on. It also has a smaller, locating hole between two of the regular holes that goes over a pin on the hub face.
The two patterns use different bolt circles (the holes are farther away from one another on one than the other), and wheels made for one pattern can NOT be used on hubs with the other pattern.
You seem to be installing later (88-) front spindles onto an earlier (-87) car. You will either have to a) live with two different bolt pattern wheels, one pattern for the front, another pattern for the rear (which makes carrying a spare problematic). or you have to complete the conversion to the later bolt pattern wheels by installing a rear axle from a 1988- 900 that does NOT have ABS, replacing the handbrake lever mechanism, and running cables to the rear axles for the e-brake, as that moved from teh front to the rear with the switch.
The later brakes are arguable much better than the earlier Girling brakes, particularly since good rebuilds or new calipers for the Girling setup are ever harder to obtain.
