1990 SPG - AIC doesn't pick up the idle .. Posted by vsfoxe [Email] ![]() ![]() |
when clutch is pushed in like at a stop sign, or light, or parking - acts like AIC is ignorant of the need to do something. As the battery gets lower on charge, the problem turns into engine stalling when clutch is pushed in. But, if I charge the battery up overnight (2 Amp), the problem is fixed for 3-5 days, then returns again 'cause the battery is getting low. I've changed the battery - same symptoms. Charging up is good for 3-5 days, then. So, I THINK the AIC is good, but something must be bad with the charging system? I've cleaned grounds at front crossmember & fuel rail, and applied dielectric grease. I put a meter on it with fully charged battery (idling at 850 RPM):
13.76 volts with nothing on
13.56 volts with headlights on
13.50 with both cooling fans on
13.36 volts with A/C & both fans on
13.36 volts with A/C, both fans, and blower motor on
13.18 volts with A/C, both fans, blower motor, and headlights on
With engine turned off, 13.27 volts
I'm terrible at diagnosing electrical!
On my 1991 SPG, the readings are .2 - .3 volts higher across the board, except with the key off, it reads only 12.89. That car has no A/C.
Any suggestions? Help! Vern
