I'm with the crank (Hall) sensor crowd. There essentially nothing going on in the distributor of a 1993S. Could also be a flaky fuel pump although they usually die completely.
If you are willing to use the non-oem crank sensor the fix should not be too expensive. (I will admit that I always use the OEM sensor because I figure the splice with the non-oem sensor is just one more thing to go wrong. The OEM sensor is pricey).
