24" breaker bar won't get you very far. Neither will an impact wrench (maybe if it is super powerful). What I got was a 5' length of black iron pipe + put that over the breaker bar. Our indy uses a huge breaker bar, but pipe is cheaper.
Even so, there was 1 situation where I couldn't get the bolts off with a 5' pipe on the breaker bar (with 1 guy holding + 1 guy jumping on the other end of the bar)... turns out somebody used anti-sieze on the bolts (and over tightened them)! Never do that! Anti-sieze alters the friction too much + the bolts will always overtorque. Had to take it to a tire shop and they were barely able to get them off.
Now whenever I get the car back from anyone where wheels were removed, I remove, clean, + properly retorque every bolt by hand myself immediately. Saves having to carry the pipe around in the car all the time.
