I don't have a lift just jacks + stands, so everything's harder to see underneath... turns out there were a few "auxiliary" sheet metal screws used by my indy to mount the "new" heatshield (I just tore out) to chunks of the original heatshield front + rear. Clearly he felt the proper way to do it was ridiculously labour intensive + that's why it only cost $200 or $300 to get it replaced last time! I doubt he even dropped the exhaust. All of the stuff I am removing in the interior is virgin, fibreglass bag + all. That's what tipped me off that he must have done something clever...
I'd like to do this properly if possible. Only real impediment now is that duct. Any suggestions would be a huge help. (or am I crazy? should I just screw to the original heat shield up front + be done with it?? tempting!)
(this whole process has opened up several other cans of worms including a few rust spots on the floor around brake lines - minor compared to most c900s of this vintage, but another future project nonetheless).
thanks!
James...
