BAAB,
Unless you find a N.O.S. (new, old stock) unit tucked away at some dealership somewhere then there are no "New" ones available. Eriksson Industries does a very good job of rebuilding these. All the parts that they use are entirely reliable whether new, used or re-machined and they provide a good warranty. It's not hard for a rebuilder who's dedicated to these transaxles to get one right so that it is trouble-free for many years but the key is that it must be someone who is dedicated to the T37. There are numerous details of the T37 which require special insight, gained from experience and special attention, and the rebuilder who does one T37 or does one occasionally will probably see that unit fail early or exhibit problems right away. That may seem to describe all automatic transmissions but consider that Borg-Warner really was never much help to T37 rebuilders as Saab contracted with them to keep all of the O.E.M. parts "captive" (available only through Saab) and Saab had no more interest in the product once the NG 900 replaced the C900. A few parts from the "generic" BW T35 can be used in the T37 and there were always the aftermarket kits but a real reliable rebuild covers a lot more ground. The "hard parts" always had to collected from cores, re-machined or purchased from Saab at stratospheric prices. The T37 pump is unique (no, it's not the same as a T35 pump no matter what you may hear or read) and when Saab had them to sell they were about $700! I did every thing I could to repair and salvage hurt ones but a damaged pump was often the part that directed a unit to the core pile.
If you want the best T37 for your car and you don't have a line on a N.O.S. one then install an Eriksson unit and you'll be perfectly happy with it for a long time. Just remember to flush the hell out of the cooling circuit, use type F ATF and carefully adjust the shift cable (not to be confused with the throttle pressure cable) as per the Saab manual. Neglect any one of those and you may as well just save yourself a lot of work and burn your money. Good luck.
