Replaced ignition switch - what a PITA

Just replaced my ignition switchin my 90 900TC auto, and no post that I have read on this BB really lets unsuspecting people attempting this repair know the depth of the aggravation. From the special tool to the long pins in the ignition cylinder and gear mechanism, I honestly didn't know what I was letting myself in for. How anyone can rotate the gear shift housing without disconnecting the shifter cable(automatic tranny) is beyond me. Took me quite a while to using an offset screwdriver to get the topplate off, but I had no idea that the bottom plate with the see-saw plate had 2 pins that worked in sync with the key and switch. I found out only after one in the switch mechanism fell out unknown to me on reassembly. Bentley was lax in that detail. And I never did get the console completely off due to the seat belt latches. I had already removed both seats, and refused to disassemble any more for a switch. I'd put this repair up near the steering rack for PITA rankings, but at least you don't get oily/dirty.
I must be getting old, because it seems every thing I fix on this car requires me to disassemble 10 pieces to fix one.
