Well I can see from the photo that the shift "finger" that is on the shift control shaft is not engaged in the reverse "fork" (the bronze thing that slides on the shaft). The finger appears to still be in the 3-4 fork (neutral position) but the reverse fork is in the engaged position. If any gear is engaged the shift control finger must be positioned in that gear's fork. To bring the reverse fork back you'll need to flop it to the outside and then slide it back which means that first you must remove the bolt and idler engagement arm. Get the fork back so that all the gates are lined up and then reinstall the arm with the idler gear in the dis-engaged position (and the finger still in neutral position in the 3-4 fork). Make sure that the pivoting finger that sticks into the slot in the reverse idler is in the slot as well. That's what it looks like to me.
