I began to get itchy the other day about prchasing another 900. I have had a 1991 SPG in storage for 3 years and decided to break that out to do a few things to it instead. Afterall, I had not spent any time with the car for 3 years, so it was like getting a new car.

I jacked up the car and removed the rear jack stands first and proceeded to do the same on the front. I rolled the car back far enough from the wall in front so I could open the hood to get things underway. I installed a new battery and removed the drier sheets I had scattered on the engine to ward off unwanted visitors. Next I removed the coil wire and fuse # 30 so I could turn the engine over to build preliminary oil pressure before starting.

After cranking the engine for about 6 seconds, I went back to the engine to install the fuse and the coil wire. Back into the car, I cranked it over. The engine caught and then stalled. I cranked again and it started running this time. Not touching the gas I let it idle and got out to look and listen to the engine. The lifters were ticking louder than normal as oil circulated through the engine. Smoke came from the exhaust from the engine fog sprayed into the cylinders 3 years prior. Gradually, the smoke went away and the engine smoothed out and purred at a steady 800 rpm.

Backing the car slowly out and letting it idle, I checked for any leaks or abnormalities with the car. Everything looked really good. The oil pressure was up, the fans kicked on as it got to temperature and there were no leaks.

I had forgotton how good this car looks. Perfect black paint with 16" Aero wheels and a factory whale tail, this car is stunning. I drove it through town to I-88 and cruised for about 40 minutes at 80 mph. The car flawlessly motored along and boost well into the red when passing trucks. The turbo in this car is much smoother than my '92 convertible.

Anyway, I think I made it through the critical period of not buying another 900. I'll do a few things to this car such as change the brake fluid, coolant and oil, then tuck it away next month prior to snow fall.

Happy Saabing!!
