Here's an in depth article on the subject where the writer explains that "Removing broken bolts and studs has resulted in very high rates of aspirin usage among frustrated engine builders", maybe aspirin works better than beer? He also explains how not to damage the aluminum when heating the stud. The 2nd link is what I found on goodson.com's website but what we get from them are long round green sticks of perfumed wax rather than what the link show? Another trick after the heating and wax method is to use a drill jig that tool companies like Snap-On sells where you leave the exhaust manifold in place and use the correct size jig to locate the hole. If I remember correctly Saab exhaust manifolds have oversize holes except for two to locate the ports to the head so depending on which bolt is broken 2 different size jigs could be necessary.
