Odometer repair-metal gear spins freely-need glue adv..

Attached picture helps... but long story short, the metal gear on the odometer shaft (shown to the right of the red arrow) is able to spin freely on the shaft. I assume it shouldn't, and that this is why my odometer just stopped working... if I manually spin the black gear on the far left, I can get the odometer to advance no problem, but if I apply ANY MINOR resistance to the metal gear, the shaft continues to spin but the metal gear and odometer stop.
I feel like I need to get some glue or something down in that small crevice indicated by the arrow... is this a ridiculous pursuit, or worth a shot? Any advice on what sort of glue, and how I might go about applying it?
It's worth mentioning the black gear on the far left and white gear next to it aren't spinning on the shaft whatsoever... yet--but I do see a crack starting to form where the blue arrow indicates... impossible to photograph with my iPhone, but I'll put a dab of glue over the crack there as well...
Thoughts/advice?
Thanks!
