The current capacity of the alternator bulb is different from all the others, and when the cars came from the factory, they are even in a different color holder from the rest. If I recall, the alternator bulb is 2W, and the rest are 1.2W...
The alternator won't start charging properly without the bulb in the socket, and you won't know if it stops without the bulb. The bulb is in the circuit that energizes the field.
Alternators can "self-energize" without the bulb, but it is not recommended to rely on this method to get the charging started.
