When the springs are shorter, the panhard rod will push the car off centerline as it is fixed in length. The adjustable rod will allow the body to shift back towards the centerline, therefore, keeping the centerline of the body, and the midpoint between the axle centers the same.
It works very well by the way. We use a special bearing called a Messerschmitt bearing...also called a loader slot or slotted entry bearing. They are so far superior to all the other rodends produced by companies called their "racing series" there isn't a comparison.
These types of rodends are made in the US, but they are 7/16" so you have to drill out the holes in the body and the attach point on the axle.
The aluminum rally one will probably work too. Make sure that they have all the spacers, bushings and bolts so you make sure the rod is centered in the clevis.
Good luck with that -- it is worth the effort. If you want to buy a kit in the picture, then I can direct you to the stockist. Just email me off the board, or go to my profile and you will see the URL.
