won't correct existing problems but should slow any existing rust problems down + protect the rust free areas long enough...
I've got 2 of these, a 1989 + a 1993. both have had regular (but different) oil sprays annually since they were bought 2nd hand... both have a little rust (most is invisible from the street), in different areas (mostly the common problem areas for these cars though - search the board) where the spray was not well applied, or the original factory paint was damaged and then "replaced" (both cars had "cosmetic" body work done years ago, and Saab factory paint is awesome, aftermarket paint not so much)...
btw, if you have a 1990 900s, you've got the 2.0L NA 16V engine (same as our 1989), and that thing is indestructible... aside from minor oil leaks, like others said, work on the tranny is more likely at some point than engine problems... get a bentley + you'll find most stuff is not hard to fix... the NA c900s are not speed demons, but they still have all the great handling + charisma of the turbos, cheap to insure, comfortable seats, safe, great in winter, and a lot of fun... I still get tons of gawking + complements even on our winter beater... these cars are addictive...
