Saabers,
Two weeks ago, I posted of the 88 that I forced to work a month ago. The coolant was low, and I filled the reservoir with water, Being that the car would be parked indoors, I figured, it would be all right.
Well, on the morning journey, the car overheated, bubbling in the coolant.
Long story short, I feared I cracked the head. After work, I refilled the coolant tank with water- just to get me home. I had a hunch something was wrong, despite the car started/idle fine. After I pulled the dipstick- yes- water in the oil.
I had to drive the car a few blocks yesterday- to the place where I will pull the head- and assess. I filled with water( it was above 32 yesterday) and as I drove, the temp gauge began to climb up rapidly! I parked the car near an autozone- coolant tank dry! Okay, only a few blocks more. Cooled the engine down, obtained hot water, and began to pour into the tank, and heard water rapidly gushing to the floor beneath the car!! WTH!
I ran around to the passenger's side, and saw water gushing beneath the manifold hitting the ground!!! Mind, you- not a stream, but gushing out!
Damn- now Saabers, I limped the remainder, and parked the car, and will pull the head.
Here are my questions, With water gushing so quickly out, I doubt it is simply a head gasket it is more than likely the freeze plugs that gave, or worse- a cracked head, or block?
Thanks. I know- stupid...stupid... the engine ran so smoothly too!
