connectors are the first things to fail. avoid connectors wherever possible!
the engineers designed this to connect one side of an edge connector to the other using the board. no surprise at all that it fails with any small bit of corrosion on the contacts! the other side of the connector iirc (been a few years since I looked at this), runs to the passenger side tail light assy...
The ground is not the only problem. Our 1993 sedan got the "modified ground" (extra ground wire) from our indy many years ago + a bit later, the problem cropped up again... iirc it was a different edge connector contact that also used the card edge to bridge one side of the female connector to the other. Probably failed later than the ground due to less current.
I would say the best permanent solution is to solder wires jumping where appropriate or just cut the connector + solder wires directly. I haven't done this yet, iirc, I cleaned + bent the contacts to be a little tighter + it works fine... A new board will fail the same as the old one, and probably most in junkyards are probably in comparable shape to the one you've got...
