After a lot of procrastination (a whole lot), I finally replaced the trans on my 84 Turbo. I bought a used trans off of Craigslist. Buying a used trans is always a gamble and you never know when it will break but that is the reality for most of us every day when we start our cars. This car is an automatic because my wife can not drive a stick but I think automatics are over maligned anyway.

My friend had a used 84 8V turbo engine sitting on the floor that he let me have. The engine had been sitting at least 10 years. We put a new head gasket and timing chain in the engine, replaced the bow and arrow tensioner with a new style and resealed the oil pump. The engine was clean inside and the cylinder walls still had the cross hatch.

The car runs better now than it ever has in the 14 years I've owned it. It is once again a pleasure to drive. The car still needs a ton of work but I am driving it and enjoying it.
