Mitsubushi, if anything like the 2 i have seen, will be very weak now, and you will have to over-tighten the adjuster (shorten the rod) to achieve the spring tension that dictates a higher base boost. This will cause complications when opening the WG, as the motion of travel is effectively reduced. If yours is very worn, to the point where you may have 3psi base right now, my method is now:
set the actuator rod 1/2 turn tighter than just 'slip on' linkage.
Add helper spring, set base boost by manipulating the spring end. Helper spring can be found at local ACE hardware-just get a shiny one that looks long enough to hook onto actuator capsule (on the seam).

The benefit to this seems to be that you maintain the factory range of motion, AND the factory spring tension. There is no other way to do it, other than to rebuild/replace actuator (i would be delighted to hear of a source, btw).

The concept of setting base boost via changing the spring tension (either stock actuator or with helper spring) is more to do with how the actuator responds to different levels of boost at the varying frequencies delivered by the APC system, based on RPM and boost, than anything else. Max boost is set by APC, and is apparently higher than our standard BB settings will reach.

I got the idea from JAK, btw. He talks about this a few times, and it completely changed my approach to the APC/turbo set-up. It took my little mitsu from falling on it's face anytime i did anything except downhill runs to happily pulling strong mountain runs (heatsoak permitting). Because i don't have any A/F stuff, and i am continually fighting the transmission issues, i don't want lots of boost, and certainly no spikes! I am sitting around 1/4 red (my gauge only goes to 10psi), and boost is so stable! My base setting reads around 8psi, i always use premium, and so does the wife. I have done the basic 'bend the stop' to the vac retard capsule (i don't have the 010 unit...) and run at about 20btdc, coming to about 10/11 on 15 psi boost. In that car i had the 3 bar FPR also, but i'm not sure if i need it. Get about 27mpg or so, and am inclined to leave it be- any thoughts?
