The only way to replace it is to pull the motor and separate the tranny.
How much broke off? I broke a little over 1/2" off the tip of one once and just left it that way. Thousands of miles later and still no issues. Just make sure you fish all the pieces out of the motor. I was lucky and it busted off cleanly in one piece.
If you pull the motor, may as well go through it. Replace all seals and gaskets. Replace the guides and the timing chain, etc. I just went through this last fall because I broke a chain guide. I also ported and polished the head, repainted the block, and detailed the motor inside and out. I got a bit carried away, but what the heck, motor was out. My motor now is free of oil leaks and is running like a top. Well worth the extra effort if you have to pull it anyway.
There is a very good how-to-pull-a-head writeup on the Townsend website.
