I've had my 01 Viggen convertible for a month now. Seems like its a lot harder to work on than the c900. In fact a couple of things that I thought would be easy (oil pressure sensor, hydraulic clutch hose) I gave up on and took to a local shop. I'm just not as young and agile as I used to be and the front opening hood restricts access to the back of the engine. Performance and comfort in the Viggen is a quantum improvement IMHO. The Viggen does have some unfortunate tendencies (unbelievable torque steer and cornering deficiencies) that I hope can be controlled with some aftermarket add-ons. I bolted in the steering rack clamp and brace kit yesterday and am happy with the firmer steering and controlled cornering. Next week I hope to get a six point sub-frame brace mounted, highly recommended for the 9-3 convertible.
I really like having a c900 as a hobby and pleasure vehicle, but decided I didn't want two cars, but wanted to keep the fun of a convertible and the SAAB brand. I was aiming to buy a 9-3 SE, but the one I wanted sold before I decided to buy and the viggen was on the SAAB dealers lot and I decided I could afford it. It had some problems, but a big asset was that the dealer had rebuilt the top end after getting it on a trade in when their client had blown a head gasket and decided not to fix it but get a new one.
