Long story short, I was send a coupon for brake pad and rotors for $50 an axle from NTB. That seemed like 1985 prices or better, so I took the vehicle in. After giving me an estimate for $750, they claimed to have never seen the coupon and refused to honor it having found some small print that said "or more". Anyway, the mechanic said that I needed to change the brake fluid every 20k too. It seems reasonable to change the fluid periodically...but every 20K? I think the only solid advice I got was to re-tighten the lug nuts after x miles.
So I did the work myself for $225 in parts. The vehicle (sorry...the wifes Jeep Liberty) had 55k on it and I assume the original Mopar brake fluid (I didn't bleed/change out fluid). I know, I should have done the brakes earlier but I was doing periodic visual inspections through the wheel of the pads/rotors and they still had good meat on them...it turned out the insides of the rotors were getting chewed up. Anyway, do any of you guys change out brake fluid as a matter or principal (even though the system is working fine)? It does seem reasonable to do this...many miles between changes?
