alt. ground issue. Make sure the black wire grounding the Alt is still connected. It goes from the Alt body to the engine, under the alt. mounting bracket.
Unfortunately, this bracket gets loose, and the alt. looses ground. I always add an extra wire here. Run it somewhere else than behind that alt. bracket though...maybe to the body behind the brake line clamp nearby. It will leave you stranded.
Also, check the other small wire connected to the alt. Not the ground and not the big positive wire. the little positive wire..i think it's called primary or something. I have had these break at the plastic connector and the result is dead batt(no charge) and if it totally disconnects, no run my friend.
