Question for AC gurus Posted by Notnoel [Email] (#23) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Notnoel) on Sat, 4 Jun 2011 13:30:05 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
A couple of years ago I did the full system flush and converted my AC to R134a. I used a new receiver/dryer and expansion valve and it has worked great for the last 2 summers. I tried to turn it on a couple of weeks ago and got nothing (neither hot nor cold air). I hooked up my manifold and the low side read a bout 100 psi (rater than the 45-50 psi it is supposed to be), so I drained some coolant until it was back down in the proper range - still didn't work. This weekend I checked again and the low side was again at 100 psi. So I evacuated the system and installed a compressor I got for cheap on Fleabay a year or two ago.
I pulled a vacuum on both the low and high sides (-29 psi) for two hours. The next morning the vacuum was still there (system tight). I started to refill the system and within 30 seconds of dumping in the first canister of refrigerant the pressure was at 100 psi.
Has any body experienced this? What are the likely suspects? Is the expansion valve the likely culprit? Any advice is much appreciated.
