So John, next step is, pour in some hot water, work key, pour a little more, work ke some more, etc. See if you can't at least get key to start going in and pulling out freely.
THEN try to get some turning action, again with water in between tries.
You don't really need to worry about the water, because it trickles down and away onto an insulating pad and quite a lot could go there without wetting anything, it would just sit there and evaporate. But it shouldn't take much at all even if you keep pouring little bits into the key hole.
I had this kind of a problem, car sat for about a year and then, key flat WOULDN'T turn. Eventually, I stripped the shifter cover away and even tried drilling in the hole to depress whatever it is that lets key cylinder be removed. But couldn't get it to come out. I DID, however, get it to start turning, then to turn freely, and LOTS of crud worked out down below.
Seems a lifetime of crud before me, plus whatever I spilled down there, stayed out of the way as long as key was getting turned regularly. But the car sat, and also, the sunroof wasn't properly closed and water got in. The goo crept out, and solidified.
Afterwards I lubed it with WD40 tho some say not too. It works slicker now than it ever has in the three years I've owned it.
I had to lock a vise grips onto the key, down low next to the lock cylinder, and use it for VERY GENTLE extra leverage, to get it to start to turn. Then I kept at it as it got ever looser.
