The ignition amplifier relay was a dumb, unneeded idea that they discontinued in 1988. They all eventually fail, but they generally live long useful lives prior to doing so. Yes, a failed one will cause the fuel pump not to work, but it should have been an extremely short diagnosis... 10 minutes? Not that hard. I am pretty sure you can bypass it by jumping pin TD1 to TD0 without ill effect. They only used these for two years, so they are quite hard to find.
