Somehow, every time I suggest cleaning the contacts of a switch, derf jumps in and advises the opposite. I drove the car for more than a year after the repair, till its tranny died, and I never had a single hint of starting trouble from that switch after I cleaned it. As I said, its contacts are very robust, and though they were very carboned up they cleaned up fine and I'd do it again.
They don't carry much current, just the solenoid juice, and they don't make or break while on, they are moved into position ahead of the turning of the starter switch, and the starter has finished its job before you shift out of Park and the contacts slide apart again. So there's not much chance of arcing and burning again for many years.
Also, as I mentioned, it's a hard-wired switch, I looked way downstream and couldn't find a connector point for three of the five wires, so you'll have to clip them, strip them, and either crimp connect or solder and heat-shrink insulate them, to change a switch.
I'm offering a money-saving tip, also time-saving in that you can be back on the road after reassembling, you don't have to wait while parts are ordered and arrive.
